JAMMU: Militants belonging to the “Parkat-ul-Ansar” outfit made an unsuccessful attempt to ambush a convoy of pilgrims bound for the Amamath cave shrine last week by throwing grenades on the yatris near Ramban, 150 km from here, on the Jammu-Srindgar national highway, while 13 persons, including 11 militants, were killed last week in Kashmir Valley.

Nobody was injured in the attack. Two militants involved in the attack were arrested by the security forces accompanying the pilgrims after an encounter.

According to officials here, some suspected militants standing on the roadside threw a hand grenade on the convoy of pilgrims moving towards Banihal tunnel on its way to Amamath cave. The grenade missed the target and exploded on the road.

Officials said that pilgrims had stayed over might at Rambam and were moving in their vehicles ked at around 9 a. m.
