NEW DELHE: The government on Aug.21, denied reports that it had asked the Indian High Commissioner in London to provide security to Akal Takht acting Jaihedar Manjit Singh, during his visit to the United Kingdom. “The reports are totally false and mischievous and the alleged letter a blatant forgery,” an official spokesman said. There was no Communication between the foreign secretary and the Indian High Commissioner or between any official of the External Affairs Minister and the High Commission regarding the visit of the jathedar.

According to reports, Foreign Secretary K. Srivanasan had, in a letter to High Commissioner Singhvi on July 21, said Manjit Singh was “on a special mission.” The reports also quoted the latter as saying that Manjit Singh had agreed to help the government bring the militants in the United Kingdom back to the mainstream.
