JAMMU: Admitting that seven of the 14 districts in Jammu and Kashmir were in the grip of militants the state government has created seven posts of Superintendent of Police for coordinating ant insurgency operations between the police and the security forces in ‘Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag, Budgam, Kupwara and Pulwama districts (all in Kashmir) and in Doda district of Jammu.

The decision to create the post of SP, Operations, in seven districts ‘was taken by the State Administrative Council at its meeting here Nov.21. The meeting was presided over by Gen K.V. Krishna Rao. Briefing newsmen on the deliberations of the meeting, Chief Secretary Ashok Kumar said the new SPs would concentrate purely on ant insurgency operations. ‘They would supervise the working of the task force, comprising policemen being set up in all three districts.
