BELJING (PTI): China and Kazakhstan will cooperate in the “fight against international terror ism, organized crime, drug trafficking and smuggling,” a joint Statement issued here said Oct.21. The statement signed by presidents Jiang Zemin of China and Nursultan Nazar bayey of Kazakhstan, was issued at the end of the Kazakh leader’s four day visit, the two countries agreed to offer each other help in civil and criminal cases but did not elaborate, both sides are worried about sub nationalist clamor and religious fundamentalism.
China is especially concerned about the activities of activists based in Kazakhstan campaigning for a unified “east Turkestan’ that would encompass the Xinjiang region currently under Chinese rule.
