FAIRFAX VA: Honorable Audrey Moore Chairperson of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors participated in the weekly Diwan at Sikh Foundation of Virginia on July 28,1991
Fairfax County in which the SFV Gurdwara is located is one of the most affluent regions in the United States. In her brief remarks Moore alluded to her own ancestral background and the role played by people of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds in the country She paid tributes to the contributions being made by the Sikhs in Fairfax county and the Washington area Thanking Ms Moore Dr.Tara Singh Acting Chairman of the Sikh Foundation of Virginia referred to her as a Sikh for her qualities of humility uplift of minorities and respect for human rights Following the Diwan Ms Moore ate in the langar hall and spoke with young members of the Sangat.
Another distinguished speaker addressing the Sangat on the same day was Ms Mary Pat Fisher a journalist from Connecticut. Over the years Fisher has conducted research on different religions of the world. She spoke eloquently about her recent experience in India concerning the simple way of life of Sikh folk working from dawn to dusk reciting name of Waheguru and sharing with others whatever they ear — qualities which are the comer-stone of Sikh religion With a radiant face and a rare glow in her eyes Ms Fisher smiles broadly and Speaks softly Inner Peace is quite evident from her facial expression. Ms Fisher is the author of a series of books on comparative religion her upcoming book deals with the principles and practices of Sikhism.
