AMBALA: Railways and Punjab won the men’s and women’s overall trophies in the Senior National Weightlifting Championships which concluded here.
Dalbir Singh of Punjab and Chaya Adak of Railways were declared the best lifters in the men’s and women’s sections respectively.
Railways (436 points) were followed by Services (383) and Punjab (337) in the men’s section while in the women’s event Tamil Nadu (280) and West Bengal (258) followed Punjab (335).
Intheplus-110kg category Dalbir Singh of Railways created two new records in snatch and overall lifts improving his own records. In snatch he lifted 160 kg which bettered his previous best by 2.5 kg and in total he hoisted 347.5 kg an improvement of the record by five kilos.
In today’s competition Jyotsna Dutta lifted a total of 187.5 kgs in the 85 kg category with her lift in the snatch and clean and jerk being 82.5 kg and 105 kg respectively. She equaled her Beijing Asiad performance where she had got the silver.
In the plus 82.5 kg women’s category Varsha Patike (Maharashtra) and Tanda Roy Chaudhary (Madhya Pradesh) finished first and second the total weight lifted being 167.5 kg and 105 kg respectively.
In the 110-kg men’s section last year’s winner Chuhar Singh of Railways who had then lifted 325 kg finished third today with a heave of only 305 kg.
