CHANDIGARH: Punjab overcame a stiff resistance from Haryana to maintain their hold on the girls team title in the 31st edition of the Junior National Gymnastic Championship held here.

The Punjab team trained by Jagtar Singh of Gurdaspur scored 13105 points in optional competitions (1B) for an aggregate total of 275.76 to retain the title. Haryana on Friday secured 123.70 points from optional competitions They aggregated 267.12 points.

Maharashtra finished third with an aggregate total of 236.10 including 125.85 points from compulsory competitions. Delhi was fourth with a tally of 161.10 points. Only three Delhi girls Ruchi Rashmi and Lata could qualify for optional competitions.

Paramjota plus-one student of Government School Gurdaspur kept the spectators spell bound with her performance. On vaulting horse she performed 360 degree tum and on balancing beam the most difficult element she executed was triple backflip. Her dismount on uneven bar shoot front was excellent.

At the end of the compulsory competitions Punjab were leading Haryana by 144.7 points to 143.42.
