CHANDIGARH: Santokh Singh Anand, founder director of the PG] and doyen of surgery in the country, breathed his last on June 4, 1996. He was 86. He was working as the principal of Amritsar Medical College when the late Pratap Singh Kairon persuaded him to join PGI in 1960.
During the long and distinguished career, he has been the president of the Association of Surgeons of India, chairman of Board of Surgery for the National Academy. Of Medical Sciences, syndic and dean of medical faculty of Panjab University. He was also the honorary surgeon to all the first four presidents of India.
Dr, Anand is survived by his wife Janaki Anand and two sons, both sons Dr…S. Anand and Dr.B.S. Anand.
