LOS ANGELES CA: A Bangladeshi man aged 29 from Comilla Bangladesh was granted asylum on Oct.16 by Immigration Judge Lauren Mathon at Los Angeles California.
“Mr. X” (his real name is withheld to protect his family) had arrived on July 8, 1992 at Los Angeles International Airport. The Immigration & Naturalization Service arrested him and placed him exclusion and deportation proceedings. The INS refused to release him on bond and kept him in jail.
Mr.X applied for political asylum asserting that he had been persecuted in Bangladesh because of his activities on behalf of the Freedom Party. As a result of his political activities the police arrested and detained him several times. He was beaten by the police tortured and threatened with harm unless he quit his political activities He was forced to flee from Bangladesh for his safety.
According to his Attorney David Amkraut Judge Mathon in a well-reasoned decision found Mr.X truthful found that he had been persecuted for his political beliefs and found that he would likely be persecuted if returned to Bangladesh. She admitted him as a refugee. The Immigration and Naturalization Service did not appeal making the decision final Mr.X was represented by Attorney David Amkraut assisted by Paralegal Mohammad Arif.
