ROPAR: Bihari migrant laborers working at Brahman Majra village caught a railway police constable and his accomplices masquerading as militants recently.
According to Sat Narayan, leader of the 23-member team of laborers, around 9 p.m. two men with muffled faces and carrying a pistol-like object entered the farmhouse of Sher Singh, village sarpanch, where the laborers were staying. They ordered the laborers to line up and hand over to them valuables and money, They collected Rs 5,000 and seven wristwatches.
When the “militants” were fleeing, two laborers, Hari Narayan and Prayag Mandal, pounced upon on of them. A few laborers joined their colleagues. Many villagers reached the spot and sat the whole night with the laborers who feared another attack by “militants” to rescue their accomplices.
The nabbed persons were identified as Bhupinder Singh, a constable (belt No.466) of the railway police posted at Ambala cantonment, and Paramjit Singh. According to the sarpanch, around 12:30 a.m. about to “militants” armed with sharp-edged weapons attempted to free their accomplices. But the villagers thwarted their attempt. A blank identity card of the Punjab police and another issued in the name of Surmukh Singh (belt No.454) were seized from Bhupinder Singh.
