SACRAMENTO: The plight of Sikh asylum applicants was one of the topics discussed at a seminar on handling Asylum clients at UC Davis School of Law on Sept.26,1992. The students of UCD Law School handle immigration cases through a clinic supervised by one of their professors. At the morning session, a mock asylum hearing was conducted. At the afternoon session, an update was provided by Mark Silverman, staff attorney, of the Immigrants Legal Resource Center in San Francisco, UCD Law professor Kevin Johnson cited the Matter of Singh (see box) case decided by Judge Marilyn Patel last month, The attorneys for Singh were Robert Jobe and Jon Melrod.

Sikh law students at Davis and McGregor hope to continue to participate in forums such as this one and bring the struggle of Sikhs against the

Indian government to the attention of the courts, At this seminar, it was refreshing to see practitioners of immigration were already award of and concerned about Sikh asylum applicants.
