LONDON (PTI): Dr.L.M.Singhvi, India’s High Commissioner to the UK, has been chosen as one of the presidents at the Parliament of World’s Religions which commenced its deliberations in Chicago Aug.28.
The Parliament of World Religions in Chicago is a centennial event. A hundred years ago, the first Parliament of world religion, held in Chicago, was attended by Swami Vivekananda and a number of other representatives and spiritual leaders of different religions from India.
It was in 1893 that Swami Vivekananda took the world by storm by expounding the philosophy of Vedanta.
As one of the presidents of the parliament of world religions Dr. Singhvi will ceremonially sign the declaration of a global ethic. According to an official press release from Chicago, presidents of the world Parliament “are per sons whose leadership reaches beyond their own community, whose commitment to interreligious understanding is well known, who are concerned with critical issues of our time and who represent through their life the world’s faiths, cultures, countries and peoples.”
Before leaving for Chicago, Dr.Singhvi said, “I feel this is a great honor done to me and my country.” He is carrying messages, from the prime minister of India and the prime minister of the United Kingdom.
