The resignation of Shin Kanemaru, vice president of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party, following disclosure that he took an improper $4 million contribution from a trucking company, represents just the tip of what could be an explosive scandal. The Japanese press reports that the trucking concern gave the equivalent of $13.6 million to other prominent politicians. The list is said to include two current members of Prime Minister Kiichi Miyazawa’s Cabinet, three former LDP ministers and a former LDP secretary general.
