CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Chief Minister, Beant Singh, has exhorted the people to live up to the ideals most dear to martyrs like Udham Singh.
Paying tributes to Udham Singh, the Chief Minister said the supreme sacrifice made by him in a foreign land to avenge the Jallianwala Bagh massacre was unparalleled. The nation needed most to have national and secular leaders like Udham Singh alias Ram Muhammad Singh Azad. He cautioned the people not to be misled by the hollow slogans of communal forces and fundamentalists who were maligning the fair name of the martyrs for short term political gains.
Beant Singh announced the acceptance of the demand to declare July 31 as a public holiday to mark Udham Singh’s martyrdom,
