SRINAGAR: Separatist militants hoisted the Pakistani flag in various parts of the Valley recently, while at least five persons, including a soldier, were reportedly killed in various incidents of violence.

Reports of flag-hoisting and ceremonial parades were received from Pulwama, Sopore and Baramulla, besides two places in Srinagar, even as paramilitary forces conducted search operations in the Capital.

While Pakistan’s Independence Day is being celebrated in the Valley in a big way by the separatists, August 15 is being observed as a black day, A report received from Pattan in northwest Kashmir said that an explosive device went off when the soldier was killed in the explosion and three others were injured.

when a truck hit in the border district of Kupwara Another report from the same district said that two persons, including a woman, were injured in a crossfire between the militants and the security forces while the latter were conducting search operations there.

Police also said that two persons were killed and several others injured in a grenade explosion in Pulwama.

Eight women were injured in police lathicharge.
