IMPHAL (PTI): The army has been deployed in the hill areas of Manipur to quell the continuing Kuki Naga ethnic clash and flush out insurgents operating in the hill districts, state chief minister R.K.Dorendra Singh said here April 13.
The Kuki Naga feud that leftover 75 persons dead in the past seven months was the direct fall out of the clash between two underground groups the national socialist council of Nagaland (NSCN) and Kuki National Army (KNA) in the hills, he said.
‘The chief minister told PTI that army has also been deployed at the border town of Moreh from where the NSCN activists had earlier served quit notices to non Kukis to vacate the town by March 28 last.
Twelve companies of paramilitary force released after the election duty at Tripura, had arrived here to assist the civil administration in tackling both the ethnic Kuki Naga clash and the insurgency problem in the state. Two battalions of army would also arrive here very shortly, he said.
While the paramilitary personnel would be used to flush out insurgents from the valley area, the army battalions would be used in the hills to track down the insurgents.
