CHANDIGARH, (PTI) A former congress member of parliament, Hakim Singh, three militants and a police constable were among ten people killed in Punjab.
In neighboring Haryana, two police constables were shot dead, police said.
Hakim Singh was shot dead at his petrol pump in main village in Mansa district.
A militant committed suicide by swallowing cyanide after being cornered by police near Shalur village in Sangrur district.
An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with security forces near village Bhoogi Pura in Faridkot district.
Gunmen went to the house of one Gurbachan Singh in Nagdipur village in Hoshiarpur district and took away his rifle. Gurbachan Singh’s guards chased them and shot dead one of the gunmen,
Militants shot dead two Haryana police constables, Rameshwar and Satyaway Singh, in Kalsa village in Kurukshetra district.
Meanwhile fourteen people, including a former congress member Parliament, four militants and a police constable were killed in strife torn north Indian state of Punjab in separate incidents.

Four employees” associations of the official media All India Radio and Doordarshan have appealed to the government to seriously consider the demands of the captors of the acting station director of AIR, Patiala, M L Manchanda.
The employees have also appealed to the militant organization Babbar Khalsa International to release Manchanda, The militants have threatened to kill their captive if the demands were not met.
A militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Bathinda district.
