KABUL: Mujahideen leader Hekmatyar agreed on Wednesday to affect ceasefire after two days of rocket attack on Kabul resulting in 50 dead and 300 injured.

It is stated by the Afghan information minister who added that the ceasefire had been given effect May 61992. Hekmatyar had opposed the new political set up in Kabul headed by Mojadidi.

Meanwhile over 60 people were feared killed and more than 200 injured as the HezbIstami forces of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar continued to blithe Afghan capital with rockets and artillery shells throughout May 5 that night and May 6 that morning.

About 300 t0 400 rockets and artillery shells pounded the city damaging large number of houses in Karte Nau and Shah Shahid near Balal Hissar Garrison fort

According to Kabul television on May 5 13 people were killed and 26 injured in May S attack on the city which was hit by over 60 rockets. Heavy casualties were feared in May 6 attack

About 12 people were killed when rockets landed at Brezhnev market just behind the Kabul hotel on the morning of May 6. Hundreds of houses have been damaged.

According to Afghan government sources the Hezb Islami forces of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar are using multi barrel BM14 rockets which are accurately guided and have a simultaneous multi target capability.

A large number of women children and men have started fleeing the Karte Nau and Shah St areas which are in line of the main pincer of Hikmatyars renewed “offensive on the Afghan capital.

There were also reports of the airport being subjected to heavy pounding by Hikmatyars forces and as a result till 1200 hours no fight could land or take off. The runway was damaged in some places.

The other worst hit areas are the Posh Wazir Akbar Khan Menna and the Macreon complex both in the vicinity of the airport.
