New Orleans, Louisiana:, The Sikh community of New Orleans celebrated Vaisakhi at the Residence of the Mangat family. Every year, during March and April, ‘mother, Hardyal Kaur and father, S. Jagir Singh Mangat complete the recitation of Guru Granth Sahib.

Before the congregation, Dr. Balminder Singh Mangat, Presi dent; Sikh Society South, reported the progress in the construction of Gurdwara Sahib in New Orleans. Dr. Mangat said that, with the blessing of God, the construction will be completed soon, thanks to Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and S. Ravinder Singh from Nairobi (Kenya), who donated money for the construction of Gurdwara Sahib. Members of other religions also donated money for the Construction of Gurdwara Sahib. ‘Singh (from Pascagoula, Mississippi) said, “May God bless them From Houston, the Kirtan Jatha ‘of Bhai Amar Singh and Bhai Harbans Singh were invited for the Vaisakhi celebration, Bhai ‘Amar Singh, during his speech, ‘said that if we show respect for our elders, our children will lam the same. He quoted Zoravar (Reporter’s nine years old son), who said, “In their old age, my parents will stay with me as Dr. Magnate’s parents are staying with him!” Bhai Amar Singh further ‘emphasized that our children do learn, not only from us but from ‘our friends as well, He (Bhai ‘Amar Singh) said that our children appreciate y the good points of our friends, as we do. He greatly appreciated the role of Bibi Dr. Raghbir Kaur Mangat (Dr. Mangat’s wife ) for this kind of excellent example. Bibi Raghbir Kaur is an emergency doctor at the Charity Hospital New Orleans. She is kind and very helpful to the needy, regardless of their religion, color or national origin. It is interesting to know that Bibi Raghbir Kaur is the sister of Bibi Darshan Kaur

Wife of S. Amarjit Singh Grewal from New Jersey) . Most of us ‘who attended the Sikh Religious ‘Conferences in the NY area know Bibi Darshan Kaur and S. Amarjit ‘Singh Grewal for their services to the Sikh community.

Incidentally, last year when S. Amarjit Singh Grewal’s mother died, his reporter was present in their home. The way Bibi Darshan Kaur took care of mother was remark able!

 The kind nature of Bibi Raghubir ‘and Bibi Darshan certainly adds ‘more color other respectable personality of their father S. ‘Manmohan Singh Guron!
