NEW DELHI; India and Pakistan agreed to enhance contacts between sector commanders of their armed forces to promptly deal with the situations such as the recent incidents of firing along the line of control in Kashmir.
The defense delegation talks, at the level of the Director-General, ‘military operations, concluded in Islamabad Monday and a joint press release sad agreement was reached in principle on some other confidence-building measures.”
These measures were expected to be discussed further and finalized during the foreign secretary- level talks to be held in Islamabad next month, the joint press release said.
It was agreed that exchange of military delegations between the two countries was in itself a useful confidence building measure.
“it was felt that such exchange should continue as they constituted an important contributive factor to the overall efforts being undertaken by governments of Pakistan and India to defuse tensions and establish good neighborly relations between the two countries,” said the press re- lease issued simultaneously in Islamabad and New Delhi.
The Indian delegation was led by Lt-Gen Satish Nambiar, Director-General, military operations.
