NEW DELHI: As many as 50 |members Of Indian parliament have signed a memorandum to be Submitted to prime minister Narasimha Rao soon seeking action against Punjab chief minister Beant Singh and his aides who disrupted a public function at Ludhiana’ a few days ago which was to be addressed by central minister Arjun Singh.

The signatories include Shiv Shankar, Surinder Singh Kairon and Rajshekhar Reddy. They demanded appropriate action against those Congress (I) men who indulged in unseemly and undignified behavior which amounted to gross indiscipline. Reddy’s association with the anti Beant move is considered significant in political circles because he belongs to prime minister’s home State. Congress (I) M.P. from Punjab Jagmeet Singh Brar evidently took the initiative to mobilize opinion against the Punjab chief minister.

The function was disrupted forcing Arjun Singh to cancel his program at Ludhiana. Those who organized the disruption were Congress (1) M.L.A.Darshan Singh Brar who was later rewarded by Beant Singh by making him chairman of Punjab Agro Industries Corporation and private secretary to chief minister, Gurmit Singh. Beant Singh later not only did not regret the disruption but criticized the organizers of the function as “pro-militant.”
