Modesto, Ca: On Thursday Feb 11, the first Punjabi restaurant of the central valley of N. California was inaugurated in Modesto by Congressman Gary Condit. Called Indian Oven the restaurant is owned by Manjeet Paul and Hamek Pabla, its located at 1022, 11th Street next to the Red Lion Inn.
Covering 2500 sq.ft it has a seating capacity of 85; the restaurant has been tastefully designed. Hamek who is also the head chef of the comely place promises gorgeous preparations of delectable Punjabi and Indian cuisine, Over 50 prominent persons graced the grand opening ceremony, Richard Lang the mayor of the city of Modesto, praised the fine decor of the new restaurant and welcomed it sentry into the ranks of the eateries of the city. The mayor also thanked the congressman and the city officials for having taken the ime to attend the opening function. STOCKTON, CA: Sure Travels’ completely refurbished and tastefully decorated was inaugurated by the Mayor of Stockton, Joan Darrah. It is located at 2324 Grand Canal Boulevard, opposite the Stockton Hilton Hotel.
Karanbir Gill and Jasbir Gill are joint partners of this enterprise which has been serving the Stockton community for the last 10 years. Two years ago, the ownership was taken over by the present management. Karanbir said that they had been planning to give a face lift to the office for some time; the existing area was small so they shifted to the present one which is more spacious. Speaking on the occasion, the mayor of Stockton welcomed the efforts of Karanbir and Jasbir and hoped they would provide good services to the residents of her city. She praised the efforts of the Sikh entrepreneurs and said she had been educated about the Sikh community and its problems in India and further, “I like them for their hard work.”
