GUWAHATI (PTI): A three member team of scholars from Thailand is currently visiting Assam to study the cultural affinity and similarity between the Thai ethnic group living in the state and the Thais in that country.
The team is touring different parts of the state to collect old documents and manuscripts for research purpose to establish the link that a section of Thais had come to this part of the country during the 13th century. The team also arrived in Dibrugarh in Upper Assam on Feb.13 to attend the 10th conference of eastern Thai literary association. They visited Thai villages in Tinsukia, Dhemaji, north Lakhimpur and Sonitpur districts to collect the documents. French scholar, Drtean Berlie from Hong Kong University, accompanied the scholars, Dr.Chatthip Nartsupha, Senior Professor of Chulalongkorn University, Ranoo Wichasin of Changma University and Kannika Wimonkasem of Silapakorn University. They would return to Thailand Saturday.
