NEW DELHIE:  Bajrang Dal chief Vinay Katiyar was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) here by Uttar Pradesh policemen on charges of making inflammatory speeches. Also the BJP MP from Faizabad, Katiyar is being taken to the Naini jail in Allahabad, where he will be kept under ordinary detention.

The Bajrang Dal chief, who called it an act of vendetta, maintained that he did not regret being detained, He pointed out that he was the first person to be held under the NSA, after the December 6 incident in Ayodhya. Katiyar was picked up from a North Avenue apartment amidst much fanfare by Uttar Pradesh police personnel, led by a deputy superintendent of police. Activists who gathered there 16 “see off their leader raised pro-temple slogans as Katiyar was led away.

Before being escorted out, Katiyar spoke to BJP leader L…K.Advani over the telephone and expressed his fear that Uma Bharati, Sadhvi Rithambara and Giriraj Kishore could also be detained.

The Bajrang Dal leader had been released in January from Mata Tila together with Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Ashok Singhal, Uma Bharati and Vishnu Hari Dalmia.

Katiyar has been charged with making several inflammatory speeches which incited communal passions after his release from Mata Tila.
