LUCKNOW: Indefinite curfew was imposed in parts of Meerut city Jan.26 following the death of PAC personnel.

The trouble broke out when about a dozen miscreants lobbed country made bombs at a picket of the 41 battalion of the PAC in the Imalian locality under the Civil Lines police station at8 p.m. Four PAC men Rohtas Singh, Pramod Kumar, Deshraj Singh and Mahendra Sharma sustained injuries in the explosions. Sharma died in hospital later.

According to the reports received here, the condition of Rohtas Singh is stated to be serious.

Another bomb hit a tourist bus after smashing the windscreen of a PAC truck, The bus caught fire and was reduced to ashes.

The district administration immediately clamped curfew in six police station areas Kotwali, Delhi Gate ,Lieadi Gate, Brahmapun, TP Nagar and Railway Reed imposed in three other police station areas Sadar, Civil Lines and Nauchandi.

All educational institutions have been closed for an indefinite period and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and other paramilitary forces have been deployed to prevent recurrence of violence in the city.

BOMBAY: Day curfew was clamped in Dindoshi in Malad in northwest Bombay following incidents of stone and acid bulb throwing and subsequent police firing which left two persons dead and 16 injured.

Five policemen were among the injured, the police said.

The police opened fire to disperse the mob, killing two people and injuring three. About eight people were injured two of them seriously in the acid bulb and stone throwing. One jhuggi cluster was also burnt.
