COLOMBO, Dec, 21, Reuter; Crudely made bombs were found in Sri Lanka’s capital hours before thousands streamed on to the streets today in ‘a mass demonstration for peace and unity, police said.
‘They said two milk churns packed with gelignite and concrete were found last night outside the main railway station. They were removed by the army.
A senior police official said the explosives, which did not seem very powerful, could have been planted by Tamil rebels or some other opposition group to disrupt the demonstration.
President Junius Jayewardene joined hands with thousands of others in a human chain across Colombo in the display of unity.
