TORONTO: Fifty year old runner, Kartar Abluwalia, continues, on Day 144, at a pace of marathon per day on his cross Canada run, through blistering heat as temperatures soared over 30 degrees CeIsius in Ontario today. Kartar’s discomfort has been compounded by losing all his toenails due to the constant pounding of his feet on the pavement.

Kartar was received on July 21st in Parry Sound, by Mayor R.O Halloran and other civic dignitaries, and media. The ceremony drew large crowds of well-wishing visitors to the area, which is mainly a ‘Cottage resort in central Ontario.

Kartar has now completed 4,000 kilometers and apart from minor injuries, appears to be in good shape and fully capable of fulfilling his mission. To date, a total of over $400,000 has been raised through cash donations, goods and services in kind, and pledges. Harnck Brar of Prince Rupert, B.C. who ran 225 kilometers from Kitimat to Prince Rupert in aid of the “Run for the Children” has raised over $11,000 through his courageous and dedicated effort. Miss Gurpreet Sodhi a twenty year old student at Trent University in Peterborough, has also been a most conscientious fund raiser and raised over $1,100.
