SINGAPORE, Oct. 14, Reuter: China wants more Singapore investment and help in its development, particularly in building power stations, officials said.

They said this was the thrust of vice Premier Tian Jiyun’s discussions since he arrived on Saturday on the first leg of a visit to four members of the association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) 10 promote closer economic ties,

First Deputy Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong said at a dinner in Tianshonour last night that investment opportunities could be exploited in such areas as engineering consultancy and construction services, seaport and airport development and management and aircraft maintenance and servicing.

He said there were growing opportunities for more business and predicted two way trade this year would surpass the 2.9 billion US dollars of 1985.

China is Singapore’s fourth ‘most important trading partner.

Tian, tipped as a future Premier, leaves tonight for Malaysia. He also will visit Thailand and the Philippines.
