CHANDIGARH: Twenty nine people, including three Indian Air Force personnel were killed on Monday, PTI reports.
Police said two militants Jaswinder Singh, the second-in-command to militant chief, Baba Gurbachan Singh Manochahal and Chanchal Singh alias Karma, Lt. Gen. of the Khalistan Liberation force were among those killed in the state.
Three IAF personnel and five members of a family were shot dead in Bhatinda Monday, they said.
Police said the assailants first fired at a shop killing five members of a family identified as Makhan Lal, Sohan Lal, Prakash Chand, Praveen Kumar and Jeewan Kumar. The assailants then shot dead three IAF men fishing in a nearby pond. They were identified as Sita Ram, NS James and A K Rakesh.
They also killed a journalist, Balbir Saggu, in the Guru Nanak Dev University campus in Amritsar, police said, another journalist, Narinder Sharma of the Punjab Kesari, who was injured in the attack, was said to be out of danger.
Gunmen shot dead Punjab police constable, Gopal Singh and paramilitary soldier, Prithipal Singh at Cheena Railwala village in Gurdaspur district and Bhagwan Singh and his mother Mohinder Kaur at their home in Babbar Hali village in Batala district.
Baba Ram Singh and a sewadar Iqbal Singh were shot dead in Kapurthala district,
Lt. Gen of the KCF Chanchal Singh alias Karma was killed in an encounter with security forces in Batala district Monday. He carried a reward of Rs 50,000 for his capture.
