The national front and the Janata Dal ruled out any truck with the Congress (I) and the BJP and decided to go to the people on the basic issues of secularism and social justice.

Senior leaders of the front and Janata Dal today met under the chairmanship of the front convener, V.P.Singh, and with the left parties on the “basic issues of secular principles and social justice on which the front government fell last week.”

The meeting took stock of the latest political situation following, the fall of the front government.

The front spokesman, Reddy said that after the meeting at the front office, senior Janata Dal leaders met at the party headquarters and reviewed the political situation.

The Janata Dal ruled out any possibility of unification with the breakaway Janata Dal (socialist) party.

“There is no question of any unity with the group of defectors,” Reddy said in reply to questions on the chances of the success of Biju Patnaik’s reported unity efforts between the two parties.
