NEW YORK: An American friend of Pakistani people, President Carter’s Attorney General, Ramsey Clark Esq. was honored here at Pakistan Mission to the United Nations. Ambassador Nasim Ahmad presented the award “Hilali Quaid I Azam” on behalf of the President of Pakistan. The award, one of Nations highest civilian honors, was in recognition of the services rendered by Mr. Clark in the field of Human Rights during General Zia’s Martial Law Rule. A time when the people of Pakistan really needed an outspoken friend. Mr. Ramsey Clark came to receive the honour with his wife and parents. While responding to the citation read by Ambassador Nasim Ahmad him, at times became overwhelmed and compared his native State Texas with Pakistan, he said I love Pakistan because it is so similar to Texas and because Pakistan has his favorite mountain. He was all praise for Pakistan’s Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, saying

“You have a brilliant young lady as Prime Minister. “Later, answering questions, he said that he hoped India and Pakistan would be able to solve the dispute on Kashmir in a peaceful manner. He termed it unfortunate that in war like conditions, human rights abuses become so common. “There are too many problems that need to be solved in both the countries and I know war can never solve any problem.” he said, In reply to another question he said there are thousands of Kashmiris and Pakistanis living here in the United States, they should raise their voice, they should use all the avenues to get their point across about what is happening in Kashmir, because, unless you come out and say it, how are the people here going to know about it. Mr. Clark said the rally in Washington was a good idea since it would help get the message across to the people ‘on the Capitol Hill.
