In Punjab, the results of the Lok Sabha elections have shown to whole world where do the Sikhs stand politically. The myth that the silent Sikh majority does not support militant Sikhs has been exploded. The militant Sikhs have shown that they can fight the battle of the ballot as they have fought with bullets.
The massive support to the so-called extremists by Sikhs also indicates that Sikh masses want that militants should find a peaceful solution of the Punjab tangle.
This verdict of the Sikhs should be welcomed by all those people who are interested in peace in Punjab.
It is regretted that the defeated candidates, especially in Amritsar, instead of welcoming the verdict of the people have made baseless allegation that the winners supporters resorted to threats in getting votes. Booth capturing can be done in one two or a few places but not in all the nine constituencies where militants or the men they supported have won.
Sikh masses have the right to demand the resignations of Mr. Manjit Singh Calcutta, Secretary S.G.P.C. who contested from Amritsar but forfeited his deposit, and Prof Darshan Singh, the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht, as he had condemned all the candidates of Akali Dal (Mann).
