CHANDIGARE: Eleven people including a deputy superintend of police and four members of a family were killed and a man allegedly responsible for last month’s massacre of 12 persons was arrested in Punjab during the past 24 hours.

In a breakthrough security forces nabbed a medical practitioner Joginder Singh alias Mini Baba who masterminded the massacre at Basti Azipwali in Ferozepur district last month.

Joginder Singh was arrested after an alleged encounter with security forces near Asal village in Ferozepur district on Sunday night. However two of Singh’s accomplices, Jaswant Singh and Shamsher Singh had escaped. According to reports received from Ferozepur Dr. Joginder Singh, during his interrogation, confessed that he was responsible for the kidnapping of about a dozen people in Makhuarea from whom he collected Rs 30 lakh as ransom.

Mini Baba is said to be working for the Khalistan Commando Force (KCF), led by General Gurjant Singh Rajasthani and Gurnam Singh.

Two people, Gurdey Singh and Tota Singh were shot dead by a group of gunmen on Sunday evening at a liquor vend in Dod village Faridkot district.

A police party, headed by DSP.H, S. Gill which chased the gunmen was ambushed near the village. In the encounter, Constable Jasbir Singh, a driver, was shot dead. The jeep lost control and hit a tree killing the DSP sitting in the seat. Constable Daljit Singh and Singh were injured.

Head Constable Swaran Singh was shot dead on Sunday night at Kotli Dhak village in Ludhiana. A body identified as that of Nirmal Singh was found on Monday morning close to Satsangh Bhavan on the road
