WASHINGTON D.C.: Demonstrations were held at the Indian Embassy here at Massachusetts Avenue on Friday January 6 and Sunday to protest the judicial murders of Bhai Satwant Singh and Bhai Kehar Singh who were hanged by the Indian Government in connection with the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The demonstration on Friday was a spontaneous one at which the Sikhs of the capital gathered to. Express their anger and resentment at this heinous act of the Government of India.
Dr. Gurmit Singh Aulakh was amongst those who addressed the protestors who stood in six inches of snow. He also issued a statement ‘on behalf of the Council of Khalistan which said, “We are appalled by the execution of these two Sikhs without even a free trial,” and disregarding appeals made by the Human Rights groups like the Amnesty International. This when none of the perpetrators. Of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots was brought to justice. This action by the government will alienate the Sikh community.”
On Sunday 175200 people from the Guru Nanak Foundation, the Guru Gobind Singh Foundation, and Sikh Foundation of Virginia demonstrated in front of the Indian Embassy and held placards saying No Justice for Sikhs in India, Stop persecuting the Sikhs in India.”
Dr. Kamaljeet K. Sethi said, “There is no justice and fairness when it comes to the Sikhs in India.”
Kashmir S. Dhaliwal said, “We must not get discouraged by events like this and we must continue to fight for our rights.”
Rajwant Singh said, “This proves that the Sikhs can no longer seek justice in India.”
