CHANDIGARH, INDIA, Nov 7, Reuter: Gunmen shot dead a retired General on Monday outside his home in the North Indian City of Chandigarh, police said.
Two or three gunmen arrived by van at the home of Major General B.M. Kumar and shot him as he was getting into a car, they said.
Gen. Kumar was the Chairman of Bhakra Beas Management Board. It may be recalled that press and the people generally accused the Board’ for causing flood in Punjab.
About 2,300 people have been killed so far this year in the state of Punjab where Sikhs are carrying out an armed campaign for an independent homeland; about 1,250 people were killed in Punjab in the whole of 1987.
