NEW DELHI, Oct 21, Reuter: At least 13 people, nine of them children, were killed and 60 injured in a stampede at a Hindu festival in North India, news agencies said on Friday.
They quoted local officials in Jamshedpur, Bihar state, as saying the stampede started when police moved in to deal with a dispute over a car crash on Thursday Night.
The agencies said police used batons to get to the site of the collision through a crowd gathered on a bridge to watch the final ceremonies of a major festival
The crowd panicked and stampeded. Twenty-six severely injured people were taken to hospital.
Police imposed a curfew on the town and threatened to shoot curfew-breakers on sight, the agencies said,
