LUDHIANA: The youth wing of the UAD will gherao the residence of the Union Agriculture Minister, Mr. Bhajan Lal, on October 12 to draw the nation’s attention towards his role in “communalizing, the Punjab situation.”
A jatha of the youth wing led by its President Mr. Amrik Singh Aliwal, will leave Chandigarh on October 11 and reach Delhi the same day. After offering prayers at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib the jatha will go to the residence of Mr. Bhajan Lal and gherao it for the whole day.
In a statement here, Mr. Aliwal described Mr. Bhajan Lal as “the single most important factor in vitiating the atmosphere in Punjab”. He lashed out at the Union Minister for what he described as his “totally inhuman statement describing the loss of life and property in Punjab due to floods as insignificant. This shows how little human life matters to Mr. Bhajan Lal.”
He said Punjab was the food bowl of India and its agricultural economy had been shattered. The Army had been called out. But the Minister failed to see anything from his aircraft.
Mr. Aliwal has called an emergency meeting of the district Jathedars and the Working Committee members of the youth wing at Gurdwara Kalgidhar Sahib here on October 12.
