NEW YORK: A lady had’ her purse slit and money stolen in a local Citibank in Queens here and the bank said it was not liable for the money, Not only that, the police took over 45 minutes to come to the scene.

Mrs. Gurmit Kaur Saini was robbed on October 3 as she stood in the priority line of the Citibank at39 Street and Queens Boulevard in Long Island City here at about 2:15 p.m.

She told the World Sikh News that 6 or 7 Hispanic women asked her the time and generally surrounded she while someone slit her purse and took the $1,670, which she had come to deposit, from the bag. Mrs. Saini helps her husband S. Devinder Singh Saini, Asst. Treasurer of Sikh Cultural Society N.Y., to run a gas station in Long Island City. The cash stolen was a. part of a deposit she had brought to the Bank.

Mrs., Saini told the World Sikh News that the Bank seemed reluctant to call’ the police when she asked them to do so and even after she called the police at 911, it took them 45 minutes to respond.
