KARACHI, June 4, Reuter: Troops were called out in a town in Pakistan’s southern province of Sind today after violent protests against Hindu Moslem riots in India, police said.
They said at least 100 people were arrested for attacks on property owned by Hindus during the nightlong protests by Moslems in Mirpurkhas, 200 km (125 miles) northeast of the provincial capital Karachi.
A Hindu heart patient, Prem Das, died apparently of shock after an attack on %house, residents said.
Hindu shops, temples, and houses have been attacked in the protests which began in Sind last week after rioting in the Indian cities of Meerut and Delhi last month killed more than 125 people. About 100 residents of Karachi chanted slogans against Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi during a protest demonstration today outside the Indian consulate, witnesses said.
