EUROPE: More than 2,000 Sikhs attended the ceremony at West Hampton, industrial city ‘in the English midlands. Local Sikhs raised nearly a million US. Dollars (500,000 pounds sterling) to build the temple.
It has taken 20 year for the new Guru Nanak Temple to be built and as the Nishan Sahib or the holy flag was raised, crowds of Sikh worshippers gathered outside. Inside the old temple, one of the finest to be built in Britain, the holy book has laid covered by a gold cloth for 14 years. The Sikh community in West Hampton has been growing and it now numbers 20,000.
