SEOUL, Reuter — Pakistan moved into top gear in the men’s Olympic hockey tournament on Tuesday but arch rivals India were still playing at half pace
Pakistan head Group A on a two. Goal average over Australia and their key encounter against the Netherlands could decide which two teams will be qualifying for the semifinals. Both Pakistan and Australia are undefeated from their two matches.
In Group B, the Soviet Union is the only unbeaten side. They beat ‘Asian games winners South Korea 81 on Tuesday, two days ago, they upset India, and eight times Olympic champions.
India was given the lead in the 30th minute by left inside Jude Felix, dribbling his way into the circle and scoring with a reverse flick, but the West Germans equalized four minutes later through Michael Hilgers.
The two sides tried hard in the second half for the winning goal, but erratic coordination among their forwards denied both a decisive result.
To ensure a semifinal place, India cannot afford to lose any of their three remaining matches against second seeded Britain, Canada and South Korea.
