Dr. Balwant Singh has recently been chosen for biographical inclusion in Personalities of America, Fourth Edition (1985). Personalities of America, a national publication originating in Raleigh, N.C., takes its nominations from many respected sources in fields of journalism and a variety of professions. Dr. Singh will be listed in the 198586 fourth edition of this volume, published by the American Biographical Institute. He was also listed in the previous 198384 third edition of this volume.
Dr. Singh’s selection to this prestigious society was based on his outstanding educational background and varied teaching experience, as well as his exemplary civic and professional contributions to his community, state, and nation.

Dr. Singh is a teacher at Kreole Elementary School in Moss Point. He is a native of Punjab, India, and holds three degrees Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Teaching, and Master of Arts from Punjab University.
Teaching students from grade school to college in Punjab, Dr. Singh has earned his specialist degree in education from Delta State University in 1975, majoring in elementary education and administration and supervision. He received a Ph.D. in elementary education and administration from University of Southern Mississippi in 1977.
Dr. Singh holds a quadruple A (AAAA) certificate in elementary education, triple A (AAA) in secondary education, double A (AA) in supervisor/secondary school principal from the Mississippi Department of Education.
Dr. Singh has received standard teaching certificates in secondary education, elementary education, and school administration from California, Tennessee, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Ontario, Canada.
He taught in Mississippi public schools at Mound Bayou for seven years and received the Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America Award in 1975. He was a graduate assistant at the University of Southern Mississippi while working for his doctoral degree in 1976. He was an assistant professor at University of South Carolina during 1977, and has worked in the Moss Point School System since 1978.
Actively involved in professional, civic, and political activities since entering this country, Dr. Singh is a member of the International Platform Assn., Smithsonian Institution, Phi Delta Kappa, National Education Assn., Mississippi Assn. of Educators, National Council of Teachers of English, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Assn. of Supervision and Curriculum Development, Kappa Delta Phi, Delta State University Alumni Assn., University of Southern Miss. Alumni Assn., International Reading Assn., and numerous other local and state level educational associations.
He is also a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Royal Maid. And Parent Teacher Associations, and a supporter of the Mississippi Sheriffs’ Boys and Girls Ranch.
Dr. Singh has written numerous educational articles on self-concept, moral judgment, academic achievement of elementary children, and student motivation in class. He has also spoken as a guest lecturer at several civic and social organizations on the topics of education and citizenship. Dr. Singh was elected by the Mississippi Democratic Party to serve as an elector of the Electoral College for the state of Mississippi in the 1984 Presidential Election. He is the outgoing president of the Moss Point chapter of the Mississippi Association of Educators — National Education Association.
Dr. Singh is an active member of the Sikh Society of the South, headquartered in New Orleans, La. and a member of the Religious and Educational Committee of the World Sikh Organization.
His wife, Mrs. Mohinder Kaur Singh, is also a teacher in the Moss Point School System. The Singhs have two children, Ravinder Singh (son) and Davinder Jit Kaur Singh (daughter).
