SRINAGAR: A Border Security Force (BSF) commanding officer PC Sharma and five security Jawans were among the 13 per Sons killed in 14-hour long fierce gun-battle at Batmaloo, on Aug. 13.

Elsewhere in the Kashmir valIey,a BSF inspector, Gurjeet Singh and 10 others were among 16 per- Sons killed during last weekend. Police said militant’s lobbed hand Brenades and opened fire on security forces at Latapora, about 16 km from here on the Srinagar Jammu National Highway, on Saturday aft moon.

The BSF personnel fired back and in the shootout inspector Gurjeet Singh was killed and five others were critically injured. Later two more officials including an assistant sub inspector succumbed to wounds en route to hospital Abdul Rashid Dar, Ghulam Chammad and Moma Bhat were also killed in the incident.

House-to-house searches were on when reports last came in, he added,

A bandh was observed in Srinagar and its outskirts immediately after the news about the Batmaloo incident spread, all shops and business establishments remained closed. Transport services went off the roads. At several places, people took to the streets and pelted stones on passing vehicles in the city pro- testing against the Batmaloo incident. Several women were re- portably injured during protest demonstrations at Batmaloo, official sources said.

Meanwhile, more troops were sent to Batmaloo on Saturday aft moon.
