GHAZIABAD: At least nine persons were killed and over 100 wounded 20 of them policemen as fresh Hindu Muslims noting broke out and police opened fire on mobs in the northern township of Uttar Pradesh state.
Unofficial sources however put the toll higher.
Police said they fired several rounds on the mobs indulging in noting and looting in different parts of the city Jan 27th and arrested more than 150 persons.
The deputy inspector general of police Mr.G.L.Sharma confirmed six deaths while the unofficial figures put the toll in the clashes between two communities at 20.
Shoot-at-sight orders are in force as well as a 24 hour curfew.
