JAMMU: Forty five persons were killed and three others injured in Kashmir valley since Wednesday while security forces Thursday thwarted an attempt to blow up a radio installation near Srinagar.

According to sources, militants fired rockets at the transmission center of radio Kashmir in Narbal, 10 KM from Srinagar, and causing damages to the building.

This was the third rocket attack in the city little over a month after attacks on security force camps along the Dal Lake Boulevard on June 19 and in Barzullah locality a few days later.

The sources said three rockets were fired on the installation from a nearby paddy field. After this the entire area was cordoned off and a ‘search was on.

Nine people were killed on Tuesday Security forces recovered a decomposed body from river Jhelum in Baramullah.

Sources said two militants were killed in Poonch sector Tuesday evening as they attempted to sneak into India.

An official spokesman said here three Pak trained men were killed and another injured and arrested in Kupwara sector in North Kashmir and a huge cache of arms and ammunition seized.

The spokesman said an authorickshaw driver was killed in cross firing in downtown Srinagar Wednesday.

Official sources, said two CRPF Jawans who were critically wounded in a cross fire in Alikadal locality succumbed to their injures,

Security forces arrested one militants, in Poonch sector and recovered a pistol and some ammunition.

The spokesman said the security forces were attacked at seven places with handgreandes and gunshots in different parts of the valley. Details were not immediately available.
