MADRAS: Two LTTE militants allegedly committed suicide by swallowing cyanide capsules when their boat carrying essential ‘commodities to Sri Lanka was captured by Indian naval patrol boats off Rameswaram coast in the early hours Thursday.
Another militant who also took cyanide, has been hospitalized in a critical condition, official sources quoting preliminary report, told PTI here in this southern Indian capital.
However, five other occupants of the boat were captured alive.
The sources said the boat was spotted three km off the Rameswaram coast at around 0001 hrs. (Local time) by two naval speed patrol boats, which captured it after a chase.
The boat was reportedly carrying essential supplies to an LTTE base in Mannar in Northern Sri Lanka.
The captured included Indian smugglers, the sources said.
Of the three militants who swallowed cyanide capsules when armed naval men boarded the boat.
