CHANDIGAR India: 194 persons were shot dead by the BS.F. at India Pakistan border since January 1 1986. Giving this information Border Security Force D.I.G. disclosed that these deaths occurred during 145 encounters Maximum encounters took place in the month of August in which 68 persons were killed. These include 10 Amritdhari Sikhs who were shot dead on August 30 in Dera Baba Nanak sector. He also disclosed that B. F. Killed 26 freedom fighters during August. D.I.G. Mr. Rao also disclosed that 114 encounters took place in 1985 and only 38 persons were killed in those encounters. The dead included Pakistani nationals and smugglers. But the dead of 1986 were mostly Bangladeshis. Replying to a question Mr. Rao said that most of the encounters took place in Dera Baba Nanak and Khem Karan sectors whereas smugglers were generally killed in the Amritsar sector. BS.F. also arrested 84 Indians 82 Pakistanis and 4000 Bangladeshis at the border up to August 31 of this year. During 1985 such arrests were very few. He said that in the last encounter two persons were killed.
