CHICAGO, IL: Suchitra Suraplboonchal, chair of the 13th Annual Asian American Coalition of Chicago Lunar New Year Celebration, announced that the Coalition will hold its Lunar New Year gala in the evening of Saturday, February 10, 1996 at Hyatt Regency O’ Hare, 9300 West Bryn Mawr Avenue in Rosemont, Illinois. “And there’s also a celebration of hope, hope for a Coalition now in its 13th year, with so many more bridges still to build,” said Suraplboonchal. Every year a different Asian community takes tum playing host, and this year it is the Thai American community, through The Thai Association of Illinois. Lunar New Year is additionally the single largest organized annual event in Chicago’s Asian American community, which numbers over approximately 300,000. Over 1,200 people are expected to attend the festivities. The event attracts the Governor, Mayor, Senators and Congressmen. Sikh American Community of Chicago participates in this event usually in big numbers, Prime space tables have been reserved for the community.
