SRINAGAR: As many as 130 men were arrested Nov 14 in the Kashmir valley while army and para military forces continued searches and raids to flush out nationalists in the downtown areas of this summer capital of the volatile border state of Jammu and Kashmir Nov 14.

Two security men were injured as militants clashed with them at four places in the city, which observed a partial strike Nov 14 Twenty five structures, including shops, were destroyed in fire incidents in Anantnag and Kupwara. A place of worship was damaged in Kalkuda in another fire incident, an official spokesman said.

In a major swoop, security forces arrested 102 in Sopore town on Noy 13, the spokesman said.

He said 25 men—12 in Srinagar, six in Pulwama, four in Daramulla and three in Anantnag ‘were arrested Nov 13.

One militant was arrested in the city on Nov 14. Security forces shot at him when he tried to escape. He was hospitalised, the spokesman said.

Two militants were arrested in village Sogam in Kupwara district.

Two security personnel were injured when militants hurled a grenade at a patrolling party at the Mahraja Bazar crossing in the city on Noy 13 that afternoon.

Militants also hurled a grenade at a security forces vehicle in Amira Kadal,

Nationalist exchanged fire with ‘security forces at Gowkadal but no one was injured. They also exchanged fire with border security force jawans at Parimpora Nov 13.

Troops cordoned off downtown areas of Srinagar and residents were asked to come out of their houses when searches began.

Meanwhile, Srinagar and adjoining areas observed a partial strike Nov 14 following a call by ‘An organisation to protest the arrest ‘of the commander of the militant Kashmir Mujahideen on Sunday.

Shops and business establishments were open in downtown Srinagar but closed in on the areas, Transport plied normally. Work in government offices continued to suffer as an indefinite strike by employees entered the 61st day Nov 14.
