SRINAGAR: A woman was seriously wounded as Pakistani troops targeted a forward village with gunfire, while 11 militants, a bank manager and a local hostage were among the 22 persons killed in unabated violence in Jammu and Kashmir on Sept.23rd.

An official spokesman said that Ms. Munira sustained gunshot wounds due to indiscriminate firing by the Pakistani troops from across the border in Bagyaldara sector in the border district of Poonch in the Jammu region Saturday.

The security forces, guarding the borders, returned the fire to silence the Pakistani guns. But the casualties suffered by the Pakistani troops were not known immediately, officials said.

They said Pakistani Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing in their attempt to push armed militants into the state under the cover of gunfire.

Security forces intensified their patrolling all along the border to scuttle the Pakistani attempt, the officials said.

Two security personnel were killed and three others sustained injuries in a powerful explosion which shook Planwalla area of Jammu region.

Militants shot dead Ghurshan Ahmad Malik, manager of the Cooperative Bank, Trigham, in his house at Kalaroos in frontier district of Kupwara, official reports said,

The reports said that two more persons were shot dead at Nagri Chogil in the same district Sunday. The victims were shot dead for their alleged links with the security forces

The spokesman said that militants abducted one, Piarey Lal Rajna, from his house at Wanpoh in Anantnag district of south Kashmir late Saturday night.

Body of Raina was picked up by police from the same area, he said, adding that the kidnapped victim was shot dead by the abductors

An unidentified person was killed by the security forces during search operations. ‘at Dooru in Anantnag district Sunday. Further details of the incident were awaited ‘as the operation was still going on, official sources said.

Apolice spokesman said, Gulzar Ahmad, was killed in an encounter following a raid on a militant hideout by the special operations group of Jammu and Kashmir police at Jawahar Nagar in Srinagar late Saturday night.

He said that three more militants were shot dead elsewhere in the Valley during raids and house to house searches. Three militants were also arrested.

Three: persons identified as Mubarak Shah, Mangta Gujar and Ghulam Mohammad Malik, were shot dead in their houses at different places of Kupwara district.
